2. •The design - related tasks which are performed by a
modern Computer – Aided Design system can be
grouped in to four functional areas as shown in fig 2:
such as
•1 Geometric Modeling
•2 Engineering Analysis
•3 Design Review and Evaluation
•4 Automated Drafting

3. Geometric Modeling
•Geometric modeling is concerned with the
computer-compatible mathematical descriptions
of the geometry of an object. The mathematical
descriptions allow the image of the object to be
displayed and manipulated on a graphics
terminal through signals from CPU of the CAD
System. To use of geometric modeling, the
designer construct the graphical image of the
object on the CRT screen of the ICG System by
inputting three types commands to the
computer.

4. .Engineering Analysis.
•The engineering analysis may involve
stress-strain calculations, heat-transfer
computations, or the use of differential
equations to describe the dynamic behavior
of the system being designed. The computer
can be used to aid in all kind of Engineering
Analysis. The Specific Programs and
commercial software packages developed
by the engineering analysis group to solve a
particular design problem.

5. Design, Review and Evaluation
•Checking the accuracy of design can be accomplished
conveniently on the graphics terminal. The dimensioning
and tolerance routines which assign size specifications
to surfaces indicated by the user help to reduce the
possibility of dimensioning errors. The designer can
zoom in part design details and magnify the image on
the graphics screen for checking and correcting the
errors.

6. Automated Drafting
•Automated drafting involves the creation of
hard-copy engineering drawings directly
from the CAD date base. CAD
departments, automation of the drafting
process represented the principal
justification for investing in CAD System.
