About This Presentation

This Presentation Describes the Base Study about different Mechanical Drives and their selection parameters to use in Industry. it will also clear the idea behind selecting the mechanical drives only instead of going for other types of drives.

Applications of Belt, Rope and Chain Drives and its Selection Method for Industry Presenter Name – Vaibhav Anil Wani

Overview Definition of Drive Belt Drives Rope Drives Chain Drives Applications Selection Methods

A Drive, more precisely, a mechanical drive is a series of components which manages the transmission between two static or dynamic elements. This power can further be channeled to power other equipment like pumps, blowers, air compressors, and other common industrial machinery. There are generally 3 types of mechanical drives, namely belt drives, chain drives and rope drives. Definition of Drive

Belt Drives A  belt  is a loop of flexible material used to link two or more rotating  shafts  mechanically, most often parallel. Belts may be used as a source of motion, to  transmit power  efficiently or to track relative movement. Belts are looped over  pulleys  and may have a twist between the pulleys, and the shafts need not be parallel. A Belt may be of 3 types. Basically Flat belt, V-Belt and Trapezoidal belt are of them.

Rope Drives R ope drives were used for connections from  stationary engines  to the  jack shafts  and  line shafts  of mills, and sometimes from line shafts to driven machinery. Unlike leather belts, however, rope drives were sometimes used to transmit power over relatively long distances. Over long distances, intermediate sheaves were used to support the "flying rope", and in the late 19th century, this was considered quite efficient.

Chain Drives R ope drives were used for connections from  stationary engines  to the  jack shafts  and  line shafts  of mills, and sometimes from line shafts to driven machinery. Unlike leather belts, however, rope drives were sometimes used to transmit power over relatively long distances. Over long distances, intermediate sheaves were used to support the "flying rope", and in the late 19th century, this was considered quite efficient.

Applications Belt Drives The belt drive is used in the Mill industry. The belt drive is used in Conveyor. Chain Drives Transportation Industry. Agriculture Machinery. Material Handling Equipment. Building construction. Rope Drives • H unting, pulling, carrying purposes. • L ifting purposes as well as climbing activities in the ancient era.

Selection Elements of Drives in Industries Type of enclosure Type of bearings Method of power transmission Type of cooling Noise level Space requirement

Discussion What makes the mechanical drives to be in the List of Recommendation in Industries? What sets it apart from other related Drives?
