ART NOUVEAU

INTRODUCTION .
ART NOUVEAU (FRENCH FOR
"NEW STYLE") WAS
POPULARISED BY THR FAMOUS
MAISON DE'L ART NOUVEAU
(HOUSE OF NEW ART), A PARIS

Art nouveau
represents the

modernism in
design (

It occurred at a time
when mass-produced
consumer goods began
to fill the market place
and designers,
architects and artists
began to understand
that handcrafted work
of centuries past could
be lost.

While reclaiming
this craft tradition,
art nouveau
designers
simultaneously
rejected traditional
styles in favour of
new, organic forms
that emphasized
humanity's
connection with
nature.

It embraced
all forms of
art and

CASE
STUDY.

SAGRADA FAMILIA
BYAntoni Gaudí.

It is a large
unfinished
Roman Catholic
church in
Barcelona,
designed by
Catalan
architect Antoni
Gaudí.

PLAN OF SAGRADA FAMILIA.

THE ANNUAL
CONSTRUCTION BUDGET IS
OF 25 MILLIONEUROS.

MATERIALS USED IS STONE WHICH WAS HAND CARVED IN
THE 20TH CENTURY BUT NOW COMPUTER ADDED DESIGN
TECHNOLOGY ARE BEING USED FOR THE STONE TO BE
SHAPED OFF-SITE .

THERE ARE 3 FACADES OF THE SAGRASA FAMILIA.
THE NATIVITY FAÇADE.
Dedicated to the birth of jesus, decorated with scenes reminiscent of
elements of life.

THERE ARE 3 FACADES OF THE SAGRASA FAMILIA.
THE PASSION FACADE.
Dedicated to the passion of christ, the suffering of jesus during his
crucifixion. The façade was intended to potray the sins of man.

THERE ARE 3 FACADES OF THE SAGRASA FAMILIA.
THE GLORY FACADE.
Dedicated to the celestial glory of jesus, it represents the road to god: death, final
judgement, and glory while hell is left for those who deviate from gods will.

GAUDI DIED ON 10TH JUNE 1926 AND WAS BURIED AT
SAGRADA FAMILIA.

It was the peak of style, which in all its
decadence and decoration, found its
own demise. The consumers of the style
found it overpowering and overbearing,
and swiftly moved towards the next
style; Modernism. A victim of its own
success, Art Nouveau could be likened
to a candle that burnt itself out
prematurely.

THANK YOU.
