Advantages and Disadvantages of Artificial intelligence

Slide Content

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial intelligence is a combination of the words
artificial (artificial intelligence) and intellect (wisdom)
referring to artificial intelligence. Therefore, when a
machine is equipped with artificial intelligence to perform
human-like intelligent tasks, it is called artificial
intelligence. It’s all about developing intelligent machines
that can simulate the human brain and work and behave
like humans.
We can define AI as follows: “Artificial intelligence is a
branch of computer science that deals with the
development of intelligent machines that can behave like
humans, think like humans, and make decisions for
themselves.”
AI is one of the fastest growing technologies that makes
people’s lives much easier by offering solutions to
complex problems. It also offers different options for
everyone, so it is a technology that is in high demand on
the market.
THE HISTORY OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Artificial intelligence is considered a new technology, but
in fact it is not new. Artificial intelligence researchers are

much older. It is said that the concept of intelligent
machines originates from Greek mythology. Here are
some key points in the development of artificial
intelligence:
In 1943, Warren McCulloch and Watertight proposed the
artificial neuron model.
In 1950, Alan Turing published the paper “Computer
Machinery and Intelligence” in which he introduced a test
called the Turing Test. This test is used to determine
machine intelligence by testing whether a machine can
think or not.
In 1956, the term artificial intelligence was introduced for
the first time at the Dartmouth conference by the
American computer scientist John McCarthy. John
McCarthy is also known as the Father of AI.
In the year 1972, the first full-scale intelligent humanoid
robot, WABOT1, was created in Japan. In 1980, with the
development of expert systems, artificial intelligence
appeared. These systems are computer programs designed
to solve complex problems. In 1997, the IBM Deep Blue
Beat World Chess Master Gary Kasparov became the first
computer to beat the world chess champion.

In 2006, AI entered the business. The world’s leading
companies such as Facebook, Twitter and Netflix have
also started using artificial intelligence in their
applications.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
Advantage:
One of the greatest achievements of artificial intelligence
is its ability to reduce human error. Artificial intelligence
is very useful in dangerous situations that are inaccessible
or difficult for humans to survive. For example, exploring
the deepest parts of the ocean. Using AI, 24*7 can be
provided to customers who use chat robots as customer
service.
Repeated activities can be boring in humans, but with AI-
activated machines they can be done with full efficiency.
This is very useful for daily activities such as Google
Assistant Alexa and other virtual assistant technologies
helping to make our lives easier.
Lack:

The development and maintenance of the AI system is
very expensive. Human dependence on such technologies
makes humans lazy.
There is always a fear with AI that if it becomes advanced
it could be harmful to humanity. Improper input to AI
systems can lead to harmful results.
Types of AI
Based on the capabilities, AI can be mainly divided into
three types:
1. Narrow Artificial Intelligence or Weak Artificial
Intelligence:
Narrow artificial intelligence or weak artificial
intelligence is a basic type of artificial intelligence that
can use intelligence to perform specialized tasks. The
current version of artificial intelligence is narrow artificial
intelligence. Narrow AIs can only perform a given task
and not beyond its limitations because they are trained for
only one task. It is programmed to perform a specific task,
such as playing chess, checking the weather, etc.
2. General Artificial Intelligence:
General artificial intelligence or “strong” artificial
intelligence defines machines that can display human

intelligence. A machine with AGI can arguably
successfully perform any intellectual task that a human
can. This is the type of artificial intelligence we see in her
or other sci-fi movies, where humans interact with
machines and control systems that are conscious, sentient,
driven by emotion and self-awareness. Currently, this type
of intelligence does not exist in the real world and is only
found in research and movies. But researchers around the
world are working on developing such devices, which is
still a very difficult task
3. Super AI
Super AI refers to AI for self -weight that has the ability
to surpass people. At this level, machines can perform any
task that humans can perform using cognitive capabilities.
However, Super AI remains a hypothetical concept and
developing such AI-enabled machines is a challenging
task.
AI APPLICATIONS
1. Game:
AI is widely used in games. Different strategy games like
chess require machines to think logically, while video

games use artificial intelligence to provide an immediate
experience.
2. Robotics:
Artificial intelligence is often used in robotics to develop
intelligent robots. AI-enabled robots use instant updates to
detect any obstacles in their path and can change their
path immediately. Ai robots can be used in hospitals and
industries and can also be used for other different
purposes.
3. Healthcare:
In the healthcare sector, AI has diverse uses. In this field,
AI can be used to detect diseases and cancer cells. It also
helps in using historical data and medical intelligence to
find new drugs.
4. Computer Vision:
Computer vision allows the computer system to
understand and derive meaningful information from
digital images, video and other visual input using AI.
5. Agriculture:
Artificial intelligence is now widely used in agriculture,
for example with the help of artificial intelligence we can
easily identify faults and nutrient deficiencies in the soil.

To identify these defects, artificial intelligence robots can
be used. AI bots can also be used to harvest crops faster
than humans.
6. E-commerce
Artificial intelligence is one of the most widely used and
demanding technologies in the e-commerce industry. With
the help of artificial intelligence, e-commerce companies
can recommend products based on user needs, thereby
generating more profits and achieving business growth.
CONCLUSION
Artificial intelligence is undoubtedly a trend and a new
technology. It is growing very fast every day and it allows
machines to imitate the human brain. Due to its high
performance and making human life easier, it is becoming
highly sought after in the technology industries. But
artificial intelligence also faces some challenges and
problems. Many people around the world still consider it
a risky technology because they believe that it can be
dangerous to humanity if it surpasses humans as shown in
various science fiction movies. However, the daily
development of AI has made it a convenient technology
and people face it. Therefore, we can conclude that this is
a great technology, but each technology must be used in a

limited way to use it effectively without causing any
harm.
