Like in several other countries, Indonesian art forms are not only based on folklore but also on religious ceremonies practiced by its people from prehistoric times to the contemporary period. Because the country is composed of many neighboring islands, diversity is evident in its more than three hundred ethnic groups. Each ethnic group has developed its own language, style, cuisine, and in a way, its own traditions that reflect in their art forms. This document provides an overview of art in Indonesia.
