Engro Powergen Thar Pvt Limited As per the external counsel’s advice we have a strong case in relation to the availability issue. Engro Powergen Thar (Pvt) Limited Engro Powergen Thar Pvt Limited (EPTL) has been at the forefront of energy production since its commercial operation in 2019. As a crucial component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), we play a significant role in enhancing energy security and reducing foreign resource dependence. One of our ongoing sustainability initiatives involves the responsible management of bi-products generated during the power generation process. EPTL is committed to environmental stewardship, and we are currently focusing on the effective utilization of ash produced by our 2x330 MW power plant at Thar. Competition: Competition will be initiated between universities to come up with best Technical and Commercially viable solution to utilize Ash produced from local Thar Coal. Global Ash Usages Both fly ash & bottom ash have been utilized in various ways, contributing to sustainable practices & minimizing environmental impact: 1 Construction Materials: Making concrete and bricks, enhancing durability 6 Wastewater Treatment: Treating heavy metals 2 Road Construction: Road stability and strength 7 Landfill Cover: To reduce odor and discourage pests 3 Agricultural Applications: Used as a soil amendment to improve fertility 8 Geopolymers: Forms sustainable construction materials 4 Manufacturing Building Products: Making materials like drywall and tiles 9 Environmental Remediation: Controlling soil acidity and erosion 5 Cement Production: As an ingredient 10 Adsorbents: Removing pollutants from air and water

Competition Details Objective : To explore innovative and sustainable ways to utilize ash produced at Thar.   Duration of Project: 06 Months   Endorsement : Project will be approved by University Chancellor; Report will be signed by Registrar as representative on behalf of University Size: 4 participants per team + 01 supervisor Relevant Departments: Chemical and Civil Expense Covered by Companies: Testing of Ash samples as agreed mutually between EPTL and Universities Travel to Thar 2 times during Project Duration Accommodation at Site Evaluation Criteria Technical/ Environmental Viability of Solution Commercial Viability of Solution Rewards Prize Money for the best Solution (PKR 2 Mn for 1 st position and PKR 1 Mn for 2 nd position) Knowledge exchange between coal fired power plants and universities Opportunities for the students for participate in resolving actual real-life problem of IPPs
