What are the assistive devices in caregiving? Some examples of assistive technologies are: Mobility aids, such as wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, canes, crutches 1 , prosthetic devices, and orthotic devices . Hearing aids to help people hear or hear more clearly.
Assisting Device Assistive devices such as canes, crutches, and walkers can be used to increase a patient's base of support, improve balance, and increase activity and independence, but they are not without significant musculoskeletal and metabolic demands.
The importance of assisting devices for patient and caregiver? Assistive devices also allow the healthcare worker to transfer and move patients in a way that reduces risk for injury to themselves and patients . Some assistive devices found in the hospital and community settings that can be used to help transfer patients in and out of bed and within the bed.
Why cane is useful for elderly? The elderly start using a walking stick because of balance and postural disorders and to prevent falling because of these disorders . A walking stick is the most preferred walking aid, because it is easy to use and is accepted by the society.
Crutches Crutches are a type of walking aid that serve to increase the size of an individual's base of support . They transfer weight from the legs to the upper body and are often used by people who cannot use their legs to support their weight (from short-term injuries to lifelong disabilities.
Kinds of Crutches devices
Do the elderly use crutches? Older adults rarely use crutches because of the amount of upper body strength that is needed. Walkers provide a large base of support for patients who have poor balance or who have bilateral lower limb weakness and thus cannot always bear full weight on their legs.
Walker Walkers, also known as Zimmer frames, have a metal frame with four legs. Sometimes they will have wheels on the two front legs to make forward movement easier. There also different types of walkers, including 2-wheel walkers and rollator walkers.
What is a walker for elderly? Walkers are designed to keep the user stable while moving around, providing safer travel . Most walkers have wheels that are capable of gliding over indoor and outdoor surfaces, helping seniors travel short to long distances with the assistance they need

Wheelchair A common mobility assistive device for seniors is a wheelchair. There are many different types of wheelchairs, including manual and electric models , that can be used by seniors to get around with ease. Electric wheelchairs allow people who have trouble walking or need more support to function independently.

The gait cycle The gait cycle can be broken down into two primary phases, the stance and swing phases , which alternate for each lower limb. Stance phase: Consists of the entire time that a foot is on the ground. Swing phase: Consists of the entire time that the foot is in the air
