Project Summary In this presentation, I will be presenting my recommendations for the network infrastructure for Atomic Synergistics’ new corporate headquarters. Over the past month I have conducted a thorough evaluation of the network setup. I have developed strategic recommendations that are aimed at enhancing our network’s speed, security, and compatibility to align with our future growth initiatives.
Current network issues and solutions Over the next few slides, I will be outlining some of the issues I discovered when evaluating our network. I will also give my recommendations for remediating these issues.
In these two pictures I have taken of the current server room, you can see a few issues. My first concern is that the networking equipment is next to a hot water heater. Heat and Humidity tend to be bad for electronics. The second issue is the state of the network cabling. The cabling in this state poses a safety hazard, as well as problems for troubleshooting if you ever must trace or replace the cable.
Here are some example pictures of how I will be organizing the cabling in the new offices. Notice the use of patch panels and wire ties to keep the cabling neat and organized. These server rooms are also climate controlled and well ventilated. They are free of any heat or humidity that could damage the equipment.
In this slide, I have placed both the old office layout and the layout of the new offices together. If you look at the old office layout, you will notice the placement of a Wireless AP in the utility closet surrounded by thick concrete walls. This creates a lot of wireless interference. When talking to some of the employees, a lot of them had complained of poor wireless connectivity. I have remediated this issue in the new offices by strategically placing the Wireless APs in areas with little to no interference.
Network Diagram and equipment Here, I have created a diagram of the network setup in the new offices. I plan to use the Cisco Catalyst line for all networking equipment. This will give us centralized management capabilities for all the equipment. The equipment I have chosen is: Cisco Catalyst 8300-1N1S-4T2X Router 2 Cisco C9300L-48P-4G POE+ Switches Cisco Secure Firewall 4245 Firewall 3 Cisco Catalyst 9136 Series Wireless Access Points
Network Security I have outlined a plan for the security of our corporate data. A few things I plan to implement are: Changing the Wireless Password/Implementing Password Policy Use Of VPN Implementation of SIEM Software Daily Data Backups/Disaster Recover Plan Access Control Lists In addition to these, the firewall I have chosen has built in Intrusion Detection/Prevention as well as onboard malware protection
ACTIVE DIRECTORY PLAN I plan to create a domain in Active Directory, which will include every employee in the company. I plan to organize AD into a logical structure, based on the logical components of the company, including departments and functions. Users and computers will be placed in separate OUs for easier administration. I plan to implement security groups based on job roles. Additionally, I also plan to implement group policies such as: No Removable Media Policy Blocking Access to Control Panel and Command Prompt for Non-IT Users Restricting Access During Non-Working Hours I plan to use a Hybrid Cloud/On Premises Model. The Domain Controllers will be hosted in the server room at Atomic Synergistics’ Corporate Headquarters. File Storage will be migrated to the cloud, where we will be utilizing Microsoft Azure for a cloud based VM.
