DETERMINING CULTURAL REFERENCES III
REAL-WORLD REFERENCES SOURCE CULTURAL REFERENCES: references embedded in the SC, no matter how well known they are in the TC. Ex: Pulau Dewata INTERCULTURAL REFERENCES: references that have forged an objectively identifiable bond between SC and TC. Ex: Santa Claus, Valentine 3 rd CULTURE: elements that “do not originally belong either to the SC or the TC but to a third culture”. Ex: Pepes Ikan in Masterchef Australia for Arabian viewers. TC REFERENCES : exotic for the SC but not for the TC . Ex: Indonesian culture in a film ‘Ticket to Paradise’ translated into Bahasa Indonesia
