Authentic Assessment Development Process Flores, Stephan M. Padilla, Nally A. Bentoy, Melgei S.

at the end of this lesson, the pre-service teachers will be able to: Identify the key steps involved in the authentic assessment development process. Design a real-world task aligned with specific learning objectives. Develop a clear and measurable rubric to evaluate the task effectively.

Authentic Assessment Development Process 1.) Identify the Standards 3.) Identify the criteria for the task 2.) Select an Authentic Task 4.) Create the rubric NEXT...

1.) Identify Standards Standard is a statement of what students should be able to do. “what should students know and be able to do?” “what is required in the real world?” often will begin with a phrase such as “Students will be able to...” ( sbat ) Back to Agenda Example: Students will be able to: measure quantities using appropriate units, instruments, and methods; set up and solve proportion; develop scale models; organize materials.

2.) select authentic task Back to Agenda FIND A WAY STUDENTS CAN DEMONSTRATE that THEY ARE FULLY CAPABLE OF MEETING THE STANDARD. “IS THAT REALLY AN AUTHENTIC SKILL, AND COULD I REALLY ASSESS IT?” Authentic Task: “Rearrange the Room”

3.) Identify the criteria for the task IDENTIFY CRITERIA FOR GOOD PERFORMANCE ON THE TASK. USE CRITERIA TO EVALUATE HOW WELL THE SUDENTS HAVE MET THE STANDARDS. means to determine the specific standards or requirements that define successful completion of a given task. Criteria: accuracy or calculations, accuracy of measurements on the scale model, label on the scale model, organization of calculations, neatness of drawings.

Back to Agenda Characteristics of a good criteria clearly stated brief observable statement of behavior written in a language students understanding

4.) Create the rubric decide whether to consider the criteria analytically or holistically

Consist of a single scale with all criteria to be considered together a single score is assigned instructor scores the overall task as a whole, without judging component part separately breaks the objective into component parts each portion is scored independently using a rating scale final score is made up of adding each component parts? Holistic analytic

Holistic:

ANALYTIC: Back to Agenda

1.) Identify the Standards 2.) Select an Authentic Task 3.) Identify the criteria for the task 4.) Create the rubric Application design a complete authentic assessment based on a specific subject or topic of your choice.

Conclusion Authentic assessments are created through careful planning, relevant tasks, and ongoing improvement. This process ensures accurate measurement of student learning and promotes deeper understanding. Authentic assessments help students learn better. By using real-world tasks and giving useful feedback, we can help students understand and apply what they've learned.
