Geographical Setting: What continent? What Landforms? What important Places?
The geographical setting of where the Aztecs settled, was is North America, and had many lakes and
man made islands. Their capital city was called Tenochtitlan, which means the prickly pear, and was
based off of an old story about a snake, an eagle, and a cactus (which prickly pears grow on), and
you may have seen all of these things, and if you feel like you have, it is because it is on the
mexican flag.
Political (Leadership, citizenship, decision–making institutions)

So they created chinampas, which are raised water beds that used mud. On these chinampas, they
grew corn, squash, peppers, tomatoes, etc.
Social Order (customs, education, family life, class and caste, leisure activities, decision–making,
gender roles)
For the Aztecs, there were mainly four classes that made up the Aztec social order. On the very top,
was the emperor and nobles, then in the middle class were artisans, who sold stuff and were also
merchants, and towards the bottom were commoners, who are just normal people, then at the very
bottom were slaves, either captured from war, or raised to be a slave from being a kid.
Belief Systems (Religions, myths, rituals)
The Aztecs were polytheistic and believed in over 1,000 Gods. They believed that human sacrifice
and ceremonies, kept the gods alive, which mean they were mortal gods. But when Montezuma ii
came along, he demanded more human sacrifices. The Aztecs also created a Calendar, to determine
when to have religious ceremonies, which again, is what they did to keep the gods alive. The main
