DISCUSSION H igher Brinkman Index correlated with greater reductions in lung function, indicating that heavier smoking leads to more severe lung impairment. Most patients were male (67.6%), aged 51–60 years (73.5%), with a severe Brinkman Index (58.5%) and severe obstruction (52.9%). These findings support the clinical importance of the Brinkman Index as a practical tool for assessing smoking intensity and predicting lung function decline in patients
CONCLUSION . The Brinkman Index provides an overview of smoking severity in relation to lung function. These results show that patients with a high Brinkman Index are more likely to have severe obstructive lung function.
