B-cellsplayanimportantroleinregulatingthe
immuneresponseinbothphysiologicaland
pathologicalconditions.DysregulationofB-cell
functioncanleadtosevereconsequencesforthe
host.
B-cellDeficiencyorHumoralimmune
deficienciesareconditionswhichcause
impairment(damage)ofHumoralimmunity,
whichcanleadtoimmunodeficiency.
B-cellDeficiencycanbemediatedby
insufficientnumberorfunctionofB-cells,
thePlasmacellstheydifferentiateinto,or
theantibodysecretedbytheplasmacells.

3. Causes of B –cell Deficiency
PrimaryB–celldeficiency
1)PresenceofloweramountofB-cellpopulations.
2)SeverereductionofalltypesofAntibodies.
3)NormalnumberofB–cellswithdecreasedIgGand
IgA.
4)NormalnumberofB–cellswithincreasedIgM(Hyper
–IgMsyndromes.
5)NormalnumbersofB-cellswithLightchain
deficiencies:Heavychaindeletions,Kappa
chaindeficiency,IgGsubclassdeficiency,IgAwithIgG
sub-classdeficiencyandSelectiveIgAdeficiency
6)Transienthypogammaglobulinemia ofinfancy–
ReductioninthelevelofIgG,andalsosometimesIgA
andIgM.

SecondaryB–celldeficiency
1)MultipleMyelomaorPlasmacellMyeloma–
AcancerofPlasmacell.
2)ChronicLymphoidLeukemia–Acancerin
whichthebonemarrowmakestoomany
Lymphocytes(atypeofWBCs).
3)AIDS

5. Symptoms of B –cell Deficiency
1)SinusitisorSinusinfection–An
inflammationofSinusesregion.
2)Sepsis–Alife-threateningconditionthat
ariseswhen thebody'sresponse
toinfectioncausesinjurytoitsowntissuesand
organs.
3)SkininfectionorDermatitis–An
InflammationofskincausedbyBacteria,Fungi,
VirusandProtozoa.
4)Pneumonia–Aninflammatoryconditionof
thelungaffectingprimarilythesmallairsacs
knownasAlveoli.Pneumoniaiscausedby
Bacteria,Fungi,VirusandProtozoa.
