Problem Statement Despite the growing global emphasis on Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI) in HR decision-making, little is known about how HR professionals in Pakistan perceive, trust, and are organizationally prepared to adopt XAI, creating a critical gap this study addresses through a qualitative exploration of their perceptions and readiness.

To explore the perceived challenges and opportunities associated with XAI adoption in HR functions. To explore HR professionals’ experiences and understanding of Explainable AI in the workplace. 1

What challenges and opportunities do HR professionals experience or anticipate when adopting XAI in HR functions? How do HR professionals in Pakistan perceive and understand the concept of Explainable AI? 1

Literature Review OPTION 02 Project Planning Guide students in planning their social action projects, including defining objectives, resources, and timelines. AI in HRM Increasingly used for recruitment screening, performance management, talent analytics, and workforce planning. Offers efficiency but raises concerns over fairness and bias. Explainable AI (XAI) Enhances transparency by making algorithmic decisions interpretable. Seen as critical to fostering trust, accountability, and ethical compliance in HR functions. Underpinning Theories Current Gaps UTAUT (Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology): Focuses on performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and facilitating conditions. Most studies are situated in developed, Western contexts with advanced digital infrastructures. - Limited research in emerging economies like Pakistan where cultural norms, resource constraints, and leadership dynamics differ significantly. - Socio-cultural perceptions, ethical considerations, and contextual barriers to XAI adoption remain underexplored.
