WHAT IS BAR? Bar is a retail establishment which serves alcoholic beverages such as beer, wine, liquor, cocktails and also serves non-alcoholic beverages such as mineral waters and other soft drinks and often sell snack food such as peanuts and potato chips for consumption on premises. Bars that offer entertainment or live music are often referred to as music bars, live venues, or nightclubs. Such bars often feature entertainment, which may be a live band, vocalist, comedian, or disc jockey playing recorded music.
EQUIPMENTS USED IN BAR
JUG A jug is a type of container commonly used to hold liquids. It has an opening, often narrow, from which to pour or drink, and has a handle. Jugs throughout history have been made of metal, ceramic, glass or plastic. In British English jugs are usually Drinking vessels, for holding drinkable liquids, and not a type of packaging. In North American English these table jugs are usually called pitchers.
CARAFE Carafe is a glass container without handles used for serving wine and other drinks.
BEER MUG These types of mugs have thick wall and a long handle. These type of mugs are used to serve beer.
BRANDY SNIFTER This glass is used for brandy or cognac. They have a short stem so you can place your middle and ring finger.
These are tall glasses. The flute shape helps preserve the carbonation of the champagne and it also shows off the bubbles of the champagne. CHAMPAGNE FLUTE
COLLINS GLASS This is a tall and skinny glass. This glass was named after the popular drink Tom Collins. It is used for soft drinks, juices and many mixed drinks
HIGHBALL GLASS This is the most common glass at bars. It is used to make many mixed drinks.
HURRICANE GLASS This glass is shaped like a hurricane lamp. it is used for many tropical and exotic mixed drinks. It is also used for some blended drinks like a Piña Colada. Its name originated at Pat O'Brien's Bar in New Orleans.
MARGARITA GLASS A margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice often served with salt on the rim of the glass. The drink is served shaken with ice (on the rocks), blended with ice (frozen margarita), or without ice (straight up).
MARTINI GLASS This is the classic V-shaped stemmed glass for drinks without ice (chilled drinks). This glass is also known as a "Cocktail Glass." Chill the glass before use.
OLD FASHIONED GLASS (ON THE ROCKS) The Old Fashioned glass, rocks glass, lowball glass (or simply lowball), is a short tumbler used for serving spirits, such as whisky, with ice cubes ("on the rocks"). It is also normally used to serve certain cocktails, such as the Old Fashioned, from which it receives its name.
SHOT GLASS This is a small and thick glass. It is used for many shots and as a measuring tool.
WINE GLASS There are two kinds of wine glasses (Red Wine Glass and White Wine Glass). The red wine glass has a wider bowl to allow the wine to breathe. When carrying a wine glass, always hold it by the stem so you don't change the temperature of the wine.
BOTTLE OPENER A bottle opener is a device that enables the removal of metal bottle caps from bottles. More generally, it might be thought to include corkscrews used to remove cork or plastic stoppers from wine bottles.

COCKTAIL SHAKER A cocktail shaker is a device used to mix beverages (usually alcoholic) by shaking. When ice is put in the shaker this allows for a quicker cooling of the drink before serving.

HAWTHORNE STRAINER A cocktail strainer is a metal bar accessory used to remove ice from a mixed drink as it is poured into the serving glass. A type of sieve, the strainer is placed over the mouth of the glass or shaker in which the beverage was prepared; small holes in the device allow only liquids to pass as the beverage is poured.
