Learning Objectives / Tujuan Pembelajaran By the end of this lesson, students will be able to: 1 . Identify the main idea in short academic passages. 2 . Recognize topic sentences and supporting details. 3 . Understand vocabulary meaning in context. 4 . Summarize short academic texts in their own words.
What is a Main Idea? Main Idea = the central point or the most important thought of a paragraph. I d e p o k o k = Ide utama adalah gagasan pokok yang menjadi inti dari sebuah paragraf. Usually found in the first or last sentence. It answers the question: “What is this paragraph mostly about?”
Topic Sentence & Supporting Details Topic Sentence = introduces the main idea. Supporting Sentences = give f a c t s , examples , evidence , o r e x p l a n a t i o n s f o r t h e m a i n i d e a . Contoh: 1 . 'Online learning has become an important method of education today.' (Topic Sentence) 2 . 'It allows students to learn anytime and anywhere.' (Supporting detail) 3 . 'It also helps students become more independent.' (Supporting detail)

Exercise 3 – Summarizing Practice Summarize the paragraph in 1–2 sentences. Gunakan kata-katamu sendiri (use your own words). Example: 'Online learning becomes popular because it is flexible and accessible.'
