Academic writings Academic writing differs from non-academic writing Academic writing: Book, journal, book chapter, reviews, research paper and article In academic writing the knowledge claim is based on proof through documents Proof should be in support as citation or quotation 3
Three basic tenets Author writes of his own Because he/she is an author Author often paraphrase Author often use others’ expressed ideas in his or own language Author often borrows from other's writings Borrowing or lending expressed ideas is a common feature in academic writing necessarily with acknowledgements. 4
1_Author writes of his own Author is supposed to write hi/her own The inference of the statement is as an author he is contributing something to the society On this principle he is an authors It has direct connection with readers’ world , it is readers who rather sustains the authorship of authors 5
2_Author often paraphrases Author is supposed to write hi/her own but sometimes fail to express his own as his experience, reading, knowledge base and world view matters For sustenance te author paraphrase other’s writing in his own language While paraphrasing it lead to right and wrong paraphrase 6
3_Author borrows from others’ writings To strengthen his or her own arguments, the authors borrows from other’s writings Nothing is sacrosanct in the academic world Academic is a debate which hunts for truth. Truth is true till next truth come up While borrowing the documents details must be accompanied for verification what we call citation and references 7
Discussion Authorship is a kind of knowledge claim Knowledge claim should be done with narratives supported by the powerful vocabulary and sentence structure. Knowledge claim must be supported by the arguments from the authors' own and from other writing source also For verification and other's orientation source details render a powerful and authentic position of the author. 8
