Sports Complex Site Selection with Geographical Information System Applications

FIELD OF OPERATION Batman province in the Southeastern Anatolia region close to the city centre.1/100000 scale I46, I47, M46 and M47 sheets used as a base map. After the sheets are merged and obtained as a single raster data then with the help of the Georefencing menu of the ArMap software by defining control points at grid points. Affin transformed, error value tolerances under the UTM 6⁰ projection. Project in UTM 6⁰ Projection It was studied in WGS84 datum and 37 th zone . The project area covers the Batman province border.

Methodology The data in this study (road network, settlement areas, slope etc.) were obtained from 1/100000 scale map. NetCAD 5.1 and ArcGIS 10.0 software were used during the generation of data and application of analyses. The authorities selecting the location for a sports complex have to evaluate many criteria in order to determine a sports area that will not create problems in terms of public health, will be economically optimum, and has minimal negative environmental impacts. GIS has been used as an effective tool in recent years in making such complex decisions. In this study, the criteria layers prepared in this study were analysed by weighted linear combination method and suitable locations were determined.

In general, the pathway consists of four stages: Step 1: Obtaining the input data set Step 2: Obtaining new (derived) data sets Step 3: Reclassification of data sets Step 4:Combining weighting data sets . It can be listed as follows.

Firstly, multiple buffer analysis was performed with "Multiple Ring Buffer" for the layers we have. The "Raster" process step was performed to convert the obtained data into raster data by limiting it to the provincial border. In order to classify our raster data, we classified them with the " Reclass " process step and obtained our final product with the "Weighted Sum" process.

Preparation of Criteria Layers Used in Site Selection Residential areas In this study, the distribution and development characteristics of settlements and the standard distance between settlements were taken into consideration. As a result, the maximum distance to settlements was accepted as 6000 m during the calculations. According to the raster settlement layer distance values obtained, the weight values given in Table 1 were categorised using the classification module (Figure 2.). According to this categorisation , areas located closer than 1000 m are definitely suitable. As the weight value approaches 1, the suitability level decreases.

Distance ( m ) < 1000 1000-3000 3000-6000 6000-20000 20000< Weight 5 6 3 2 1 Table 1. Distances to settlements and classification values Figure 2 . Settlement distances and weighting layer

Roads In terms of the access factor to the sports complex and the continuity of the use of the complex, it should be close to the main roads of the city. However, according to the growth direction of the city, it is more appropriate that the area to be selected is located outside the municipal boundary. In this context, it was weighted as shown in Table 2. Distance (m ) < 500 500- 1000 1000-3000 3000-4000 Weight 1 5 4 3 Table 2. Slope One of the important factors of the sports complex is to accommodate many different sports branches. Within the scope of the project, the area where the project will be built should be spread over a large area. Therefore, slope is one of the most important factors of the project. Because in terms of the cost of the project, places with low slope should be preferred. Slope (%) 0-3 3-5 5-8 8-10 10-50 Weight 5 4 3 2 1 Table 3. Weighting values of the slope

Figure 2. Slope classes and weighting layer

Aspect Within the scope of the project, weighting should be made according to the sunshine duration in order to utilise solar energy in order to meet the energy needs of such complex structures. In this context, higher weighting should be preferred for the east-west direction with higher sunshine duration and lower weighting should be preferred for the north-south direction. Table 3. Elevation Height(m ) 375-450 450-550 550-650 650-1000 1000-2962 Weight 6 5 4 3 2 One of the most important criteria that will not cause project cost and transport problems is that it is not desirable for the project site to be too high above the minimum altitude. For this reason, regions with low altitude are weighted with high points. Table 3. Weighting values of height Figure 2. Height class and weighting layer

In stadiums the football "playing field" shall have the same standard size, 105 x 68 metres . In each stadium there should be a space of at least 6 metres , but preferably 8.5 metres , between the playing area and the spectator seating area and at least 7.5 metres , but preferably 10 metres , behind each goal along the touchline. This space is required, among other things, for dugouts, camera positions, microphones, photographs and advertising hoardings. This results in a total area of at least 120 x 80 metres and preferably 125 x 85 metres . At the Olympics, in addition to these dimensions, eight lanes are added around the playing field and the dimensions reach 120 x 160 metres . Other sports branches must also comply with world standards. This means that a minimum area of approximately 100,000 m2 is required for a stadium, sports complex in accordance with Olympic standards. Amount of Area Required for Sports Complex

Result Product

In this study, a GIS based weighted linear combination method was used to determine the alternative location of a stadium and a sports complex for the region within the BATMAN 1/100000 scale I46, I47, M46 and M47 plots.
