OF DISTILLED WATER IN THE SYSTEM.
•CONSTRUCTION :- THE BATTERY COOLING SYSTEM IS
FITTED WITH EXPANSION TANK, WITH A WATER LEVEL
GUAGE GLASS MOUNTED ON ITS FRONT WALL. THE
DIVISIONS PROVIDED ON THE WATER LEVEL GLASS
INDICATE THE VOLUME OF WATER IN LITRES. CAPACITY
OFEXPANTION TANK IS 38 LITRES
• IT IS CONNECTED TO THE PUMPS SUCTION LINE
THROUGH THE VALVE (76) USED TO DISCONNECT TANK

OR IN SOME S/M AT C/R UPPER DECK ALSO WHEN THE
WATER LEVEL IN THE TANKS FALL TO 7 LITRES.
•WHEN THE PUMPS ARE STARTED, THE WATER LEVEL
IN THE EXPANSION TANK DECREASES DUE TO THE
EXPANSION OF THE HOSES AND DUE TO THE
THERMAL EXPANSION OF THE PIPE LINES.

THIS PURPOSE VALVE (47), THROTTLE VALVE (53),
SAFETY VALVE (51) AND ONE PRESSURE GAUGE IS

1.THE COOLING SYSTEM FILLED WITH WATER.
2.EXPANSION TANK LEVEL NOT LESS THEN 25 LITRE
3.SALINITY SHOULD NOT EXCEED- 3 mg/ LITRE
4.THE VALVE 34, ION EXCHANGER VALVE (98), COOLER
CROSS CONNECTION VALVE (46), BLOWING VALVE (47
AND 53), PUMP 5/17 DISCHARGE VALVE, TRANSFERRING
(VALVE 88 AND 92), DRAIN VALVE (77) AND VENT VALVE
116 ARE CLOSED

PREPARATION FOR OPERATION
INITIAL POSITION: -
•REST ALL THE VALVES ARE OPEN.
•THE CONTROL INSTRUMENT AND CONTROL BOARD
ARE DE-ENERGIZED.
•ALL SWITCHES ARE AT OFF POSITION.
•COOLERS’ SEA WATER VALVES CLOSED.

SYSTEM FILLING PROCEDURE
1.INSURE HOSE (90) IS CONNECTED.
2.CLOSE VALVE “39” AT PURIFICATION PIPE LINE.
3.OPEN VENT VALVE “116” IN M/R. TO BLEED THE AIR
IF WATER APPEAR CLOSE THE VALVE.
4.OPEN ION EXCHANGER FILTER VENT VALVE
SHOULD WATER APPEARS CLOSE THE VALVE.
5.OPEN TRANSFERRING VALVE “89 AND 92”.
6.CHECK THE SALINITY OF DISTILLED WATER.

FILLING PROCEDURE
7.IF THE SALT CONTENT IS LESS THEN 3mg/ l OPEN
VALVE 39 AND FILL THE SYSTEM.
8.IF THE SALT CONTENT IS MORE THEN 3mg/ L CLOSE
VALVE 36, OPEN 98, 34 VALVE AND FILL THE SYSTEM.
9.WHEN THE WATER LEVEL IN THE EXPANSION TANK
REACHES THE DIVISION 38 LITRE, CLOSE
TRANSFERRING VALVES.
10.EVACUATE THE REMAINING AIR FROM THE SYSTEM
BY STARTING THE PUMPS.

FILLING PROCEDURE
11.IF THE VOLUME OF WATER IN THE EXPANSION
TANK DECREASE T0 7 LITRE, STOP THE PUMPS AND
AGAIN FILL THE EXPANSION TANK .
12.THE SYSTEM IS CONSIDER TO BE FILLED IF THE
WATER LEVEL IN THE EXPANSION TANK REMAIN
CONSTANT FOR TEN MINUTES
13.AFTER THE SYSTEM HAS BEEN FILLED UP, STOP THE
PUMPS AND BRING THE SYSTEM TO INITIAL
POSITION
