Pre-production Director Don Hall found Big Hero 6 in a Marvel database. It was originally a comic strip created by Marvel. It was pitched to John Lasster as a possible production of Walt Disney Animation Studios, and in 2012, Disney confirmed that the Marvel comic would be adapted into a Disney movie. In the early stages of development, the design team took a research trip to Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute. They researched into soft robotics using inflatable vinyl which inspired Baymax’s inflatable design.
Production About ninety animators worked on the film at one point, and some worked on the film for over 2 years. The setting of the film is San Fransokyo, which is a futuristic mash up of San Francisco and Tokyo. To create a detailed version of San Francisco Disney purchased the assessor data for the entire city and county of San Francisco. A software program called Denizen was use to create over 700 distinctive characters in the film. A rendering system called Hyperion provided illumination possibilities, for example light shining through a translucent object.

This specifically targeted a teen audience as YouTube is extremely popular with teenagers and young adults.
Marketing Disney also asked US band Fall Out Boy to write a song specifically for the film’s soundtrack, and advertised this via social media, again targeting a teen audience. A music video for the song, titled Immortals, was also filmed, which currently has 114,020,462 views on YouTube, while the movie itself uses it in a main scene. https:// www.youtube.com/watch?v=oBGGEZSAfyY
