BIO MECHATRONICS PREPARED BY : S.S.REVATHI
INTRODUCTION Bio-mechatronics is the interdisciplinary study of biology, mechanics, electronics and control. It focuses on the research and design of assistive, therapeutic and diagnostic devices to compensate (partially) for the loss of human physiological functions.
TYPES OF BIOMECHATRONICS PROSTHESIS: It’s a device used to replace the missing part of the body or to make a part of the body work better.
It’s a device that supports or corrects the function of limb. ORTHOSES :
BIO-SENSORS
WORKING OF A BIOSENSOR
ACTUATORS An actuator is a component of a machine that is responsible for moving and controlling a mechanism or system.
CONTROLLERS The controller in a bio-mechatronic device relays the user's intentions to the actuators. It also interprets feedback information to the user that comes from the biosensors and mechanical sensors. The other function of the controller is to control the bio-mechatronic device's movements.
RESEARCH IN BIOMECHATRONICS Hugh Herr is the leading bio-mechatronic scientist at MIT. Herr developed a sieve integrated circuit electrode which will control knee movement and the other will control the stiffness of an ankle joint.
EXO-SKELETON An exoskeleton is the external skeleton that supports and protects an animal's body, in contrast to the internal skeleton of a human
KEY COMPONENTS OF BIO-MECHATRONICS The components of bio-mechatronic systems are as follows: A human subject. Stimulus. Sensors and transducers. Signal processing systems. Recording and display systems. Feedback elements.
ARTIFICIAL MUSCLES
CONCLUSION Bio-mechatronics play a vital role in forming the platform for the physically challenged people and also for the huge development of technologies.
