Biodiversity Threats And Conservation PRP

What is Biodiversity? BIO + DIVERSITY BIO – LIFE DIVERSITY – VARIETY It is sum of all the different species of animals, plant, fungi and microbial organism living on earth and the variety of habitats in which they live .

LEVELS OF BIODIVERSITY Genetic diversity Species diversity Ecosystem diversity

GENETIC DIVERSITY WITHIN A SPECIES THERE ARE OFTEN FOUND A NUMBER OF VARITIES OF RACES OR STRAIN WHICH SLIGHTLY DIFFER FROM EACH OTHER IN ONE OR TWO OR A NUMBER OF CHARACTER.

The biotic component in an ecosystem may be composed of few species only or a large number of species of plant, animal and microbes, which react and interact with each other and with abiotic factor of the environment . SPECIES DIVERSITY

Depending upon the availability of the abiotic resources and coondition of the environment an ecosystem develop its own characteristics community of living. ECOSYSTEM DIVERSITY

BIODIVERSITY THREATS THE CORE THREATS TO BIODIVERSITY ARE HUMAN,POPULATION GROWTH AND UNSUSTAINABLE RESOURCE USE.TO DATE MOST SIGNIFICANT CAUSE OF EXTINCTION ARE HABITAT LOSS,INTRODUCTION OF EXOTIC SPECIES AND OVERHARVESTING.CLIMATE CHANGE IS PREDICTED TO BE A SIGNIFICANT CAUSE OF EXTINCTION IN THE COMING CENTURY THE CORE THREATS TO BIODIVERSITY ARE HUMAN,POPULATION GROWTH AND UNSUSTAINABLE RESOURCE USE.TO DATE MOST SIGNIFICANT CAUSE OF EXTINCTION ARE HABITAT LOSS,INTRODUCTION OF EXOTIC SPECIES AND OVERHARVESTING.CLIMATE CHANGE IS PREDICTED TO BE A SIGNIFICANT CAUSE OF EXTINCTION IN THE COMING CENTURY.

1.CLIMATE CHANGE INCREASE IN THE TEMPERATURE INCREASE IN THE ATMOSPHERE HAS MAJOR EFFECTS ON THE ENVIRONMENT SUCH AS THE SEASON RISING OF THE SEA LEAVELS AND GLOCIAL THREATS

2.HABITAT LOSS AND DEGRADATION HABITAT LOSS MAY BE EITHER CAUSED BY NATURAL EVENTS LIKE NATURAL CALAMITIES AND GEOLOGICAL EVENTS OR ENTHEROPOGENIC ACTIVITIES LIKE DEFORESTATION AND MAIN INDUCED CLIMATE CHANGE.

3.POLLUTION BE IT WATER,AIR,OR LAND POLLUTION ALL FORMS OF POLLUTION APPEARS TO BE A THREATS TO ALL LIFE FORMS ON EARTH

4.OVEREXPLOITION OVEREXPLOITATION REFERS TO THE ACT OF OVER HARVESTING SPECIES AND NATURAL RESOURCESESAT RATES FASTER THEN THEY CAN ACTULLY SUSTAIN THEMSELVES IN THE WILD

5.OTHER POTENTIAL THREATS EPIDEMICS AND INFECTIOUS DISEASE OF WILD LIFE SUCH EBOLA VIRUS DISEASE INFECTIOUS BURSAL DISEASE AND FLUE EFFECT WILD LIFE AND BIODIVERSITY

Conservation Of Biodiversity Conservation is defined as “ the management of human use of biosphere so that it may yield the greatest sustainable benefit to the present generation while maintaining its potential to meet the need and aspirations of the future generations.”

To prevent and protect the species and their habitat. Conservation of genetic biodiversity by establishing zoos, botanical gardens, nurseries, etc. Proper planning of land use and other natural resources affecting the biodiversity.

Two Approaches to Biodiversity Conservation In-situ conservation (within habitat); This is acheived by protection of wild flora and fauna in nature itself. Eg: biosphere reserves, natural parks ,etc Ex-situ conservation (outside habitat); This is done by establishing of gene banks, seed banks, zoos, botanical garden.

Goal of conservation Conservation efforts shall focus on protecting entire ecosystem as well as single species. Protecting an ecosystem will ensure that the natural habitats and interaction of many different species are preserved at the same time.

Conservation challenges Protecting resources for the future can require the people to change the way they earn their living today. Conservation regulations must be informed by solid research and must try to maximize benefits while minimizing economic costs.

CONCLUSION If no changes are made in the ways human use resources on earth there will be continue to be degradation of biodiversity until human life can no longer be sustained. Humans affect biodiversity by their populations number, use of land and their life styles causing damage to habitats for species It is our moral duty to conserve biodiversity as well as our environment . Long-term maintenance of species and their management requires cooperative efforts across entire landscapes. Biodiversity should be built with at scale of habitats or ecosystem rather than at species level.
