Biomes in Canada SNC 1D1

terrestrial biomes are defined by the climate of the area the pattern and range of temperature and precipitation results in the creation of terrestrial regions called biomes

Canada has 5 major land (terrestrial) ecological regions all regions in a biome have similar land formations, weather, growing seasons, plants and animals the more organisms that are in an ecosystem, the higher the biodiversity

Tundra found in the far north cold temperatures and permafrost little precipitation mosses, flowering plants and few animals low biodiversity

Mountain Forest found in Western Canada (Rocky Mountain region) variable temperatures due to elevation heavy rainfall on one side of a mountain range (leeward side) and little rainfall on windward side coniferous trees and a variety of animals

Grassland found in the prairies higher temperatures and long growing seasons many grasses and a number of animals

Boreal Forest most of Canada is a part of this biome changeable weather coniferous trees and many animals

Temperate Deciduous Forest Found mostly in Southern Ontario (around the Great Lakes) Higher temperatures and long growing seasons Deciduous trees, flowering plants and many animals High biodiversity
