EXPLANATION OF BLOCK AS THE BUILDING MATERIAL

CONTENT Origin Production Properties Uses Advantages Disadvantages

1. ORIGIN Block is the mixture of sand, cement and some aggregates and water. This procedure light gray block with the fine surface texture and high compressive strength. It has high percentage of sand and low percentage of aggregates as well as water. In addition to the basic component the mixture used to make a block may also contain various chemical called admixture to alter curing time.

ORIGIN A concrete block at the first were used in the united states as a substitute of stones in the building houses. The home built of concrete block showed a creative use of common in expensive materials made to look like more expensive and traditional wood flamed stone masonry building. This new types become more popular used in the world. A concrete morter was used by roman as early of 200B.C

ORIGIN During such period small block were used in the construction of building, the first block was designed in 1890 by Harmon.s.palmer in the united states. Types of block SOLID BLOCK: These are block which is provides good stability to the structure in the work of masonry like walls. There commonly used and manufactured from dense aggregates. HOLLOW BLOCK : These are block made with void are greater than 25% of gross area. These kind of block are divided into several component based on the requirement

2. PRODUCTION The production of block consist of four basic processes which are;mixing, molding, curing and curbing 1. Mixing ; sand, cement, and some time gravel are mixed together by the help of water . Example in a modern way of block production the mixture are stored in a pile and are transferred into storage bin in the plant by a conveyor belt as they are needed. 2 .Molding ; once a load of block is through mixed it is dumped into an inclined dunked conveyor and transported to an elevated hopper.

PRODUCTION 3. Curing : the pallet of the block are converted to an automated loader which places them in a curing rack each rack hold several hundred blocks. When a rack is full it rolled onto a set of rails and moved onto a curing kiln. 4.Cubing or finishing : the rack of cured block are rolled out of the kiln and the pallet of block are un stacked and placed on chain conveyor the block are pushed off the steel pallet and the empty pallet are feed back into the block machine to receive a new set of molded block.

3. PROPERTIES They have compressive strength. They have good durability It is water absorption It is thermal insulation Sound transmission and absorption It form hard surface It is toughness, have ability of absorption of energy before rupture It is brittleness, meaning that can not under goes any deformation It has specific gravity

4. USES Used for decorative or ornament Used for fence security at home Used for structure construction such as wall, foundation Used for provision of thermal insulation Used for cemetery constructions

ADVANTAGE It provide employment to the people Source of income to the people Its durability Used for construction purpose It is fire resistance It is used as an ornament or decoration

DISADVANTAGE It is heavy It is expensive It consumes time when making it It is most dangerous when working with it hence may cause high risk Some block may need to get cut to reach essential purpose.
