Introduction : - Blood is fluid connective tissue Which transport substances from one part to the body to another. It provides nutrients and hormones to the tissue.and remove their waste products Blood is the cardiovascular system A major part of the extracellurlar fluid of the blood
Definition : - Blood is a fluid in human and other animal that delivers necessary substances such as Nutrients and oxygen to the cause and transport metabolic waste product away from
Physical characteristics of blood are : - Colour : - of the blood is opaque red due to the pigment hemoglobing in the rbcs the arterial blood is bright red and venous blood is dark red in colour Volume : - of blood in an average adult is about 5 to 6 L 8% of the body weight 80ml/kg body weight Viscosity : - of blood is five time more than that of water Specific gravity : - of blood is 1.050 – 1.060 specific gravity of rbcs is greater 1.090 than that of plasma 1.030 Ph of blood : - is about 7.4 range from 7.38 to 7.42 it is alkaline in nature in acidosis ph of blood falls below 7.38 and in alkalosis ph is more than 7.42
Composition of blood : - blood is composed of two main components plasma and cellular Plasma : - constitute about 55 % of the blood volume . It is a clear straw coloured fluid portion of blood plasma proteins Cellular elements : - of blood are about 45 % of the total blood volume and constitute so called packed cell volume blood cells
Function of blood : - Nutritive function : - blood is carries the nutritive substance like glucose amino acids fatty acids vitamins electrolytes and other from the gut to the tissue where they are untilized Respiratory function : - blood pick up oxygen from the lung tissue and deliver it to the various function of the blood is the uniterraupted delivery of oxygen to heart and brain . It also carries away carbon dioxide from the tissue to the lung from where it is expelled out in the expired air. Excretory function : - blood transportes various metabolic waste products such as urea Uric acid and creatinine to excretory organs kidney skin intestines and lung for their disposal.
4. Transport function : - the various hormones produced by endocrine glands is biological enzymes and antibodies are transported by blood 5. Protective function : - blood play important role in the defence mechanism of the body 6 homeostatic function : - blood play an important role in maintaining the internal environment of the body homeostatic function 7. Maintain ek of body temperature : - blood play in important role in regulation of the body temperature 8 storage function : - blood serves as a ready made source of substance stored it such as glucose
