2. introduction Body fluids are all the liquids in the body that helps transport nutrients or expel the waste from cells. Body fluids are the watery matrix in which the biochemical reactions of cellular metabolism occurs. The total amount of fluid in human body is approximately 70% of body weight.

4. Body fluid content Total body fluids = 70% (50 -70%) of total body weight (TBW) Body fluids = water + dissolved solutes. Total body water = 70% of TBW Kg of water = L of water

6. Intracellular fluid (ICF) Inside the cells 55% of total body water The ICF lies within cells and is the principal component of cytosol/cytoplasm. ICF contains water and dissolved solutes and proteins. The solutes are electrolytes, which help keep our body functioning properly. An electrolyte is an element or compound that, when dissolved in fluid, break up into ions.

7. Extracellular fluid In Cell biology Extracellular fluid (ECF) all body fluid outside the cells of any multicellular organism. Total body water in healthy adults is about 60 % (range 45 to 75%) of total body weight. Women and obese typically have a lower % than lean men. They are found in the blood, lymph, etc. The ECF is divided into three compartments

8. Intravascular fluid Fluid in blood vessels. It contains- plasma 3 ltr of avg 6 ltr of blood and the remaining 3 ltr contains RBC WBC, thrombocytes. Intravascular fluid is whole blood volume and include RBC, WBC, Plasma and Platelets. It helps bring oxygen and nutrients to cells and to remove waste products from them.

9. Interstitial fluid Fluid surrounded the cell. It is about 11 to 12 ltrs in adults Lymph is an interstitial fluid. Plasma and interstitial fluid are very similar. Plasma, the major component in the blood, communicates freely with interstitial fluid through pores and intercellular clefts in capillary endothelium.
