arrival of multiplexes in the late 2000s—and of piracy and Netflix more
recently—heralded a change in the fortunes of this cinematic institution, as
it did for many other single-screen cinemas across the country. Footfalls
plummeted over the past decade and a half. However some hardcore movie
lovers still prefer to go here and this has led to a popular myth in Bombay,

This cult classic comedy released in the early 90s, didn’t do well initially at the
box office but now has quite a following due to its ensemble cast. However it
is lesser known that late veteran actor X was also supposed to be part of this
film. X was supposed to play an antithesis of his own character Y, who was a
sad soul. While Y was an iconic villain, this character was supposed to be its
polar opposite, wearing white clothes and “Always serious, never smiles”
according to the director of this film. In an interview, the lead actor revealed
that _____________ had another unique thing about it. He said that the
character was kinda like Y, asks people to jump into boiling water and all.

Denzongpa., but because of an earlier commitment made to Feroz Khan's
Dharmatma, he had to step down. One of the writers recalled seeing an
actor in a 19__ play and mentioned it to the director to consider him for
this role. This actor X was not particularly known then as he had not done
any famous film. Although the director liked him, several doubted him for
this role due to his unconventional voice. The writers suggested to drop
