¿QUÉ ES? El botulismo es una afección poco frecuente, pero grave causada por una toxina que ataca los nervios del organismo. Un tipo de bacteria llamada " Clostridium botulinum " produce la toxina. Puede ocurrir como resultado de la contaminación de los alimentos o de una herida. También puede ocurrir cuando las esporas de una bacteria crecen en el intestino del bebé.
TIPOS DE BOTULISMO Las bacterias dañinas prosperan y producen la toxina en ambientes con poco oxígeno, como en los alimentos enlatados en el hogar ALIMENTARIO Si las bacterias ingresan a través de un corte, pueden provocar una infección peligrosa que produce la toxina. POR HERIDA Este tipo más frecuente de botulismo comienza después de que las esporas de la bacteria "C. botulinum " se multiplican en el tracto intestinal del bebé. INFANTIL
INCUBACIÓN Los síntomas del botulismo provocado por alimentos aparecen, en general, entre 12 y 36 horas después de la ingestión, aunque muchas veces no surgen hasta varios días después. No se conoce el período de incubación del botulismo. BACTERIA BOTULISM
SINTOMAS. Áreas de dolor: abdomen Gastrointestinales: estreñimiento, nausea o vomito Todo el cuerpo: fatiga o mareo Boca: babeo o sequedad Visuales: visión borrosa o visión doble Ojos: músculos oculares débiles o pupila dilatada Faciales: caída del parpado superior o debilidad muscular También causas comunes: dificultad para hablar, dificultad para respirar, dificultad para tragar, parálisis con músculos débiles.
PREVENCIÓN. ➢ ¿Cómo prevenir el botulismo infantil? ❑ Lava y cocina adecuadamente todas las verduras que consumirá el bebe ❑ No le proporciones miel ni alimentos que contengan ❑ Mantengan sus manos adecuadamente higienizadas ➢ ¿Como prevenir el botulismo alimentario? ❑ Seguir todas las instrucciones para lavar, limpiar y esterilizar los objetos que se usen para envasar las conservas. ➢ Usar envasadoras a presión para alimentos con bajo contenido de acido . ❑ Los tres aspectos mas importantes en cuenta son: la limpieza, el cierre térmico y el cierre hermético
TRANSMISIÓN Las formas recurentes en que la enfermedad es transmitida es por alimentos y a traves de heridas. El botulismo transmitido por alimentos aparece cuando los humanos ingieren toxinas preformadas en varios alimentos. El botulismo por herida ocurre cuando una herida anaerobia se contamina con C. botulinum, y el organismo es capaz de crecer y producir toxinas. ¿ EN DONDE SE ENCUENTRA? La toxina botulínica se ha encontrado en diversos alimentos, incluidas conservas vegetales con bajo grado de acidez, tales como judías verdes.
