Brain – anatomy and physiology

It is the Central organ for nervous system
There are three main parts in brain:
• Cerebrum
• Brainstem
• Cerebellum
CEREBRUM:
Cerebrum is divided into two Cerebral
hemispheres
Each hemisphere consists of Four lobes
❖ Frontal lobe
❖ Parietal lobe
❖ Occipital lobe
❖ Temporal lobe

FRONTIAL LOBE
o Collecting information
o Problem Solving
o Movements
DIVIDED BY Primary motor cortex, Motor associate areas
Parietal lobe
o Sensory Information (heat, touch)
DIVIDED BY Primary somatic memory, sensory associate area
OCCIPITAL LOBE
o Vision Cortex
o Vision Associated area
TEMPORAL LOBE
o Auditory sensory
o Encoding of memory

MAJOR BRAIN BLOOD SUPPLY
ARTERY: Internal carotid Arteries
Vertebral Arteries

VEINS: Internal jugular vein
Internal cerebral vein
Basal vein
Cerebellar vein
BRAIN STEM
THALAMUS:
Interaction station for sensory transitions
EPITHALAMUS:
Creating melatonin
PITUTARY GLAND :
Balancing the homeostasis
MEDULLA:
In volunteer movements

PONS:
This relays signal from forebrain to
cerebellum
CINGULATE GYRUS
Behavior control
CORPUS COLLOSUM
Joining two hemispheres
HIPPOTHALAMUS
Short time memory
CRANIAL NERVE (12)
Connecting nerve to all parts
OLFUNCTIONAL NERVE
Taste
AMYGDALA
Emotion
CORTEX
• NEOCOETEX
Sensor, language,
Recording
• ALLOCORTEX
Smell
CLAUSTRUM NERVE
Hearing
CEREBROSPINAL NERVE
Colorless Fluid produced by brain
veins

• coordinating voluntary movements
• motor skills such as balance, coordination, and posture
