Presentation of Architectural engineering Presenter: Osman Abdi Kulane B.S. of Civil Engineering from City University of Mogadishu. MSc. Of highway and transportation engineering from University Putra Malaysia(UPM).
Outlines Definition of the subject. Function and focus of architectural engineering Main contents of…. Particular topic from the subject.
Introduction to Architectural engineering As the name indicates, Architectural Engineering is related to both Architecture as well as Engineering . Architectural Engineers are constructors and designers of the various structural, mechanical and electrical systems which provide safety , durability , comfort and functional performance for building occupants.
The function of the architectural engineer An architectural engineer is responsible to convert architectural concepts into three dimensional realities through his expertise in construction , cost control and project management.
The main contents of Architectural designs The most important areas that the architectural engineer focuses are : Residential Design , Site Planning , The Floor Plan , Supplemental Floor Plan Drawings , Roof Plans , Elevations and other important context .
Site orientation Site orientation is the placement of a structure on the property with certain environmental and physical factors taken into consideration.
Factors that influence site orientation TERRAIN ORIENTATION VIEW ORIENTATION SOLAR ORIENTATION WIND ORIENTATION SOUND ORIENTATION
TERRAIN ORIENTATION The terrain is the characteristic of the land on which the proposed structure shall be placed. Terrain affects the type of structure to be built. A level construction site is a natural location for a single-level or two-story home.
VIEW ORIENTATION In many situations, future home owners purchase a building site before they begin the home design . In a large number of these cases, the people are buying a view . The view may be of mountains , city lights , a lake , a river , the ocean , or even a golf course

SOLAR ORIENTATION The sun is an important factor in home orientation. Sites with a solar orientation allow for excellent exposure to the sun. There should not be obstacles such as tall buildings, evergreen trees, or hills that have the potential to block the sun.
WIND ORIENTATION The term prevailing winds refers to the direction from which the wind most frequently blows in a given area of the country. For example, if the prevailing winds are said to be southwesterly, that means the winds in the area generally flow from the southwest.
Cont. East–west street orientation Locations protected from wind.
SOUND ORIENTATION If your construction site is located in the country near the great outdoors, sound orientation may not be a concern. The sounds that you have are singing birds, croaking frogs, chirping crickets, and possibly only a few road noises
