●Smallcracksanddistortionsarepermitted.
●Thecrushingstrengthshouldnotbelessthan7.0N/mm2
Secondclassbricksarerecommendedforallimportantor
unimportanthiddenmasonryworksandcenteringof
reinforcedbrickandreinforcedcementconcrete(RCC)
structures

●ThirdClassBricks
●Theseareunderburnt.
●Theyaresoftandlight-colouredproducingadullsoundwhen
struckagainsteachother.
●Itisusedforbuildingtemporarystructures.

●FourthClassBricks
●Theseareoverburntandbadlydistortedinshapeandsizeand
arebrittleinnature.
●Theballastofsuchbricksisusedforfoundationand
●floorsinlimeconcreteandroadmetal

●Perforated Brick
●Perforated Bricks: Small holes may exceed 25 per cent of the
total volume of the brick, but should not exceed 30 to 45%
area of face.
●These are not sound bricks
●Compressive strength should not be less than 7.0 N/mm2.
Water absorption should not be more than 15 Efflorescence
should not be more than slight.
●Warpage should not exceed 3 per cent.

●Hollow Bricks: The total of holes, which need not be small,
may exceed 25 per cent of the volume of the brick.
●Thesehaveabout1/3rdtheweightofnormalbricksandare
soundandheatproof,butarenotsuitablewhere
concentratedloadsareexpected.
●Crushing Strength: Minimum average value should be 3.5
N/mm2. Strength of individual block should not fall below the
average value by more than 20 per cent.
