Types of blood cells Purpose and job role

Platelets Platelets and fibrin help the blood clot so in an accidental injury, like a bruise or cut stops blood leaking out quite quickly. They have no colour and no nucleus.

Engulf and destroy many bacteria’s, fungi and viruses (but not all) They form our immune system and protects us from developing infections, as much as possible White blood cells

Types of white blood cells Neutrophils (also known as neutrocytes ) are the most common type of white blood cells, in humans. They form an essential part of the innate immune system Monocytes also influence the process of adaptive immunity, when we are given an immunisation injection

These offer a large surface area as they are disc like in shape. They contain haemoglobin, an iron rich protein that is responsible for assisting the transportation of oxygen to all cells. Red blood cells are made inside your bones, in the bone marrow. They typically live for about 120 days, and then they die. Red blood cells

Erythrocyte = red blood cells

Plasma Plasma is the liquid that the blood cells are floating in and the ‘fluid’ given by paramedics to try and bring blood pressure up in an accident.
