SUMMARY CANCER

CANCER Cancer is a disease caused when cells divide uncontrollably and spread into surrounding tissues It caused by DNA Change that can occur in section of DNA called GENES (genetic changes) In normal cell, tumor suppressor genes prevent cancer by slowing or stopping cell growth. DNA changes in cancer cell can inactivate tumor suppressor genes. It can lead uncontrolled cell growth (Cancer). https://www.cancer.gov/about-cancer/understanding/what-is-cancer#top

TYPES OF CANCER Carcinoma Sarcoma Leukimia Lymphoma Multiple myeloma Melanoma

TREATMENT OF CANCER TYPES OF CANCER TREATMENT Local (surgery, radiation) Systemic (Chemotherapy, Targeted Therapy, Immunotherapy ) Stem cell of bone marrow transplant Hormone therapy https://www.cancer.org/cancer/managing-cancer/treatment-types.html TREATMENT APPROACH Palliative care Clinical Trials Precision or Personalized Medicine Off-label Drugs use Biosimilar drugs Tumor agnostic drugs Pharmacogenomic Testing to guide treatment option TREATMENT APPROACH Tumor Treating Fields (TTF) Hypertermia Lasers Blood Product Transfusin Complementary and Integrative Medicine Dietary Supplement Alternative Medicine

IMMUNOTHERAPY Immunotherapy is treatment that uses a person’s own immune system to fight cancer. Mechanism: Stimulating/boosting the natural defenses of your immune system so it works harder or smarter to find and attact cancer cells Making substance in a lab that are just like immune system components and using them to help restore or improve how your immune system works to fine and attackt cancer cells Types of Cancer immunotherapy: Checkpoint inhibitors Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-Cell Therapy Cytokines Immunomodulators Cancer vaccines Monoclonal antibodies ( mAbs or MoAbs ) Oncolytic viruses

Monoclonal antibodies ( mAbs or MoAbs ) These are man-made versions of immune system proteins. mAbs can be very useful in treating cancer because they can be designed to attack a very specific part of a cancer cell (2 nd mechanism). NOTE : Some monoclonal antibodies used to treat cancer are sometimes considered to be a type of targeted therapy because they work by attaching to a specific target on a cancer cell and stopping it from functioning
