CAPSTAN AND TURRET LATHES BY POLAYYA CHINTADA USED FOR ENGINEERING STUDENTS................

Turret and capstan lathes – collet chucks – other work holders – tool holding devices – box and tool layout. Principal features of automatic lathes – classification – single spindle and multi-spindle automatic lathe – tool layout and cam design for automats . s make the students understand Types of lathes, Lathe operations, Work holders, Tool holders, Lathe attachments& Automatic Lathes COURSE OBJECTIVE: COURSE OUTCOME: Understand the Lathe operations Using Lathe Machine, APPLICATIONS: Learned how to Use Lathe Tools and Importance of Lathe Machines.

CAPSTAN AND TURRET LATHES   CAPSTAN LATHE : The capstan lathe also has a turret which contains multiple cutting tools but in case of capstan lathe the turret head is mounted on the ram and the ram is mounted on the saddle . Saddle is locked at a particular point and the ram is moved to provide feed to the tool . They are lighter in construction . Only limited amount of feed and depth of cut are provided for machining . It is use for mass production of small size equal part. It  have hand operated collet chucks.

4. CAPSTAN AND TURRET LATHES There are basically two broad classification of semi-automatic Lathe . They are: Turret Lathe Capstan Lathe  TURRET LATHE : The  turret lathe is a form of metalworking lathe that is used for repetitive production of duplicate parts, which by the nature of their cutting process are usually interchangeable.  It has additional turret, which is an  index able   tool holder that allows multiple cutting operations to be performed, each with a different cutting tool. Need for the operator to perform set-up tasks in between, such as installing or uninstalling tools is not required . The turret head is directly mounted on the saddle and the saddle slides over the bed ways . Saddle is moved to provide feed to the tool. They are heavy and  durable. More feed and depth of cut are provided for machining. It is use for mass production of large size equal part. It  is accommodated with power chucks
