Cartoon Violence By Lucas Baycroft Orcutt Acade my High School Frosh Core March 1 st 2013 e

Thesis Most people may think that cartoon violence does not affect children, but that may not be true because violence in cartoons is very influential, according to some researching.

Memorable Opening Most people may think that cartoon violence does not affect children, but that may not be true because violence in cartoons is very influential, according to some researching.

Main Concept There is growing agreement that at least some cartoon violence can affect children negatively. “Violent TV, films and video games do increase aggression , international panels of experts have said, as they warn parents to keep an eye on what their children are watching.” ( Choma ). We know that violence does have an effect on kids. But violence in cartoons may also have a negative effect as well.

Did children’s parents care what they watched on T.V? Data obtained from self generated survey. Take Survey Here!

Main Concept “ Lots of parents question the violence in many of to day’s cartoons and video games, but many of us grew up watching Tom and Jerry, The Road Runner, and other animated favorites where violence was a key ingredient.”

Supporting Detail What would some of our cartoons be without violence? Their popularity might go down the drain.

Supporting Detail Sometimes violence was used as an essential part of the program, but it is understood as part of the humor and so was not harmful.

Main Idea Yet a third possibility is that violence may not have a negative effect, but actually a positive effect.

Supporting Details “Cartoons are the most frequent and easily accessible source of entertainment which we provide to our children. With the vastness of media and extension of channels, it has it has become more convenient for parents to provide children with this all-time favorite activity of theirs.”

Supporting Details It is teaching them a skill that they can use even when their parents are not around .

Why I chose this subject I chose this subject because it relates to me somewhat and I was slightly curios.

Background Information As I have demonstrated, violence in cartoons is such a controversial subject that every viewpoint is possible and has its supporters, ranging from “violence is very negative” to “violence is not harmful” to “violence is part of the fun and is good for kids.”
