1. Grammar Causative s  

2. What do we mean by causatives?   We use causative verbs in English to say that we have arranged for someone to do something for us . Example : He had his jacket cleaned . (He didn't clean his jacket himself. Instead he caused someone to clean it for him . )

3. Form The causative is formed with ‘ a causative verb + object + past participle(V3) Examples: The man has his bike repaired . My father got his car painted . He made his brother do his homework. They will let us leave school earlier.

4. 1- to say that we did not do something but we caused somebody else to do the job for us. Example: - We had our photos taken . -I had my hair cut . -She had her computer maintained . Functions 1- We use have/get + something + past participle (V3) :

5. 2-to say that something happened that we didn’t want it to happen to us So w e also use have +something +V3 to talk about an unpleasant experience . Examples I always have my bags searched at the airport. My friend had his phone stolen last night.

6. 3- when we force another person to do something. Form: Make + someone + infinitive Examples:- My boss made me finish the work . His mother has made him take the medicine. Our teacher makes us read the article.

7. 4- to say that you persuade , convince , encourage or tell somebody to do something. In this case we use the following form: get +someone + to +infinitive NOT (have) Example . He got his brother ride his car He convinced his brother to ride his car .

8. 5-when we allow another person to do something . Form: let + someone + + infinitive (without to ) Example Did he let you pay for you? He let me borrow his car.

9. Notice! We can’t use let in the passive form. Instead: We use ( be allowed ) to Example : We were allowed to use our cell phones here . They will not be allowed to smoke here.
