5. What is a glade?
•Most generally means a treeless area (e.g. the Everglades)
•Typically a glade is an opening in a wooded area (montane glades)
•In Illinois, glades are typically south and west facing
•Sometimes referred to as Hill Prairies
•Hot and dry conditions
•Bedrock is close to or at the surface
•Only certain tree species are adapted to grow in this environment
