 Dos &  Don’ts 22 October 2022 12 Use a grammar book or student dictionary to help you understand the meaning. Prepare your CCQs in advance and put them in your lesson plan with answers. Use simpler language than the target language. Use yes/no questions or questions with one word answers. Decide what answers you expect. Make sure you are checking the target language only in your example sentence. Stop asking this question; ‘‘What does it mean?’’ Don’t forget to use CCQs in your lesson when teaching new grammar and vocabulary. Don’t over-do it or have too many questions. Don’t repeat the target language in the CCQ.

ICQs Instructions Checking Questions, e.g Instructions to exercise , tasks and games . Why do we do it? To make sure that the students know what to do before they start. To check things that the students are likely to do wrong. To allow students a chance to process the instructions. To check understanding of all relevant aspects of the task. 17 22 October 2022

How to do ICQs? Draw attention of the whole class. This is very important. (where to stand?) Use simple language and avoid complicated one. Slow down your speech. Use body language. What if students still don’t get to the point? What’s the best solution? 18 22 October 2022
