Introduction Central council for research in Ayurveda science (CCRAS ) is an apex body in india for undertaking, co- ordinating , aiding and promoting research in Ayurveda . The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences ( CCRAS ) is an autonomous body under the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The council carries out its activities through the network of research institutes and centers functioning under its direct control and through a number of units located in universities/institutes/ hospitals in different parts of the country.

Cont… Research activity of the council included research on clinical, Drug, Family welfare, literary, Nutraceutical , Ayurvedic cosmetics & bio-medical instrumentation of panchkarma etc. The council has also undertaken collaborative research work with many premier institutions. Apart from these, council is conducting some important research activities in various fields.

DEFINITIONS 1. 'Central Council' means the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences.

History Establishment of Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha (CCRAS) 30.03.1978 The council was established in march 1978 after re-organization of central council for research in indian medicine and Homopathy (CCRIM&H).

Vision To develop scientific evidence in Ayurvedic Principles, drug therapies by way of integrating ancient wisdom with modern technology and to bring Ayurveda to the people through innovations related diagnostics, preventive, promotive as well as treatment methods and also introduce scientific research for sustained availability of quality natural resources, to translate them into products and processes and in synergy with concerned organizations to introduce these innovations into public health systems.

Mission 1. To aim for AYUSHMAN Bharat by way of promoting better health through evidence based Ayurvedic principles and practices. 2. To develop CCRAS into a dynamic, vibrant, and model research organization for undertaking, coordinating, aiding and promoting research in Ayurveda . 3. To bring-up modern scientific knowledge, technology to explore Ayurveda scientific treasure following prevalent scientific methods. 4. To attain global leadership in research for treatment and prevention of emerging important life style related disease and health requirement.

AIM To enhance the capability of the council as a premier institution for research in ayurvedic sciences and to forge strategic alliances with similar establishments and constantly is strive for excellence in basis and applied knowledge for efficient understanding of the cause and prevention of human diseases and their management.

Objectives The formulation of aims and patterns of research on scientific lines in Ayurvedic Sciences. To undertake any research or other programmes in Ayurvedic Sciences. The prosecution of and assistance in research, the propagation of knowledge and experimental measures generally in connection with the causation, mode of spread and prevention of diseases.

To undertake international and interagency collaboration. To finance enquiries and researches for the furtherance of objects of the Central Council. To exchange information with other institutions, associations and societies interested in the objects similar to those of the Central Council and specially in observation and study of diseases in East and in India in particular.

To carry out clinical research on prioritized disease conditions both as intramural and collaborative. To carry out survey of medicinal plants, pharmacognostical work and study on propagation techniques. To establish methods of analysis for standardization and quality control of single drugs and compound formulations.

Function The Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences ( CCRAS ) is an autonomous body under the Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India. The Council carries out its activities and  functions through its network of 30 Institutes.

To initiate, aid, develop and co-ordinate scientific research in different aspects, fundamental and applied of Ayurvedic Sciences and to promote and assist institutions of research for the study of diseases, their prevention, causation and remedy.
