BLADDER CANCER INFORMATION Symptoms: Blood in urine , need to urinate frequently, trouble urinating, pain or burning when urinating, OR back, pelvic or groin pain Types of Bladder Cancer: Muscle Invasive, Non-Muscle Invasive or Metastatic Diversion Types after a Radical Cystectomy: Ileal Conduit, Neobladder, Indiana Pouch Diagnosis: Urine Cytology, Cystoscopy, Scans, Ultrasound or Transurethral Resection of Bladder Tumour ( TURBT)
RISK FACTORS
PREVENTION? Currently, there is no way to prevent a recurrence. Take steps to stay healthy: eat plenty of fruits, veggies, whole grains, and modest portions of lean meat. If you smoke, stop. Limit alcohol consumption Daily exercise and regular checkups will also support your health and give you peace of mind.

We fund research projects which pursue the diagnosis, treatment and elimination of bladder cancer Amount funded by BCC – 3.1 million to date Co-funding research projects with: Canadian Urology Association Canadian Uro-Oncology Group Annually BCC funds up to 3 grants – total of $200,000 per year 2 New Initiatives: Canadian Bladder Cancer Information System (CBCIS) Canada Bladder Cancer Research Network (CBCRN) RESEARCH
THE FUTURE The number of new cancer cases in Canada is expected to increase and bladder cancer is no exception. To date we have raised $3.1 million for bladder cancer research to improve medical outcomes. To provide support to the increasing number of people who will be facing bladder cancer, we need to raise an additional $1 million by year end. As Bladder Cancer Canada looks to the future, we will continue our mission in the hope that one day, bladder cancer is just a memory.
