Group 1 Presentation CELL

Cells are the smallest biological unit and make up all living organisms. WHAT ARE CELLS?

CELL IS THE BASIC LIVING STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL UNIT OF THE BODY

It is a branch of science concerned with a study of cells CYTOLOGY/CELL BIOLOGY

a fundamental concept in biology, and it has three main principles CELL THEORY

1. All living things are made of cells. 2. THE CELL IS THE BASIC UNIT OF LIFE THREE MAIN PRINCIPLES 3.) ALL CELLS COME FROM PRE-EXISTING CELL

WE CAN DIVIDE CELL IN TO FOUR PRINCIPLE PARTS

PLASMA( CELL) MEMBRANE CYTOPLASM NUCLEUS ORGANELLES

PLASMA ( CELL) MEMBRANE the outer lining, limiting membrane separating the cell internal parts extra cellular materials & external environment.

CYTOPLASM the substance that surrounds organelles and is located between the nucleus and plasma membrane

NUCLEUS the control center that contains the cells genetic material.

these are permanent structures with characteristic morphology that are highly specialized in specific cellular activity “tiny organs of the cell” ORGANELLS

PROKARYOTIC CELL EUKARYOTIC CELL TWO MAIN TYPES OF CELL

a type of cell does not have a true nucleus or membrane-bound organelles. It is surrounded by a plasma membrane , but they have no internal membrane-bound organelles within their cytoplasm. PROKARYOTIC CELL

ARCHAEA BACTERIA TWO DOMAINS OF PROKARYOTIC CELL

have a thicker cell wall that is very strong and protects it from the heat and chemicals. ARCHAEA

more permeable cell wall and takes less energy to build BACTERIA

more permeable cell wall and takes less energy to build BOTH ARE UNICELLULAR ORGANISMS AND PLAYS A CRITICAL ROLE IN RECYCLING NUTRIENTS BY DECOMPOSING DEAD ORGANISMS )

has a membrane-bound nucleus and other membrane-bound compartments or sacs called organelles. EUKARYOTIC CELL

CELL MEMBRANE CELL WALL RIBOSOMES NUCLEUS MITOCHONDRIA ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM LYSOSOMES MAJOR PARTS

KINGDOM PLANTAE KINGDOM FUNGI FOUR KINGDOMS OF EUKARYOTIC CELL KINGDOM ANIMALIA KINGDOM PROTIST

containing cell wall and specialized reproductive tissue KINGDOM PLANTAE

lack cell walls , are capable of locomotion and have a digestive tract. KINGDOM ANIMALIA

digest their food externally and then absorb it through their cell walls. KINGDOM FUNGI

single-celled motile organisms that can be either photosynthetic or heterotrophic. KINGDOM PROTIST

MAIN DIFFERENCE OF PROKARYOTIC CELL AND EUKARYOTIC CELL

Eukaryotic cells contain nucleus and organelles bound by plasma membrane Prokaryotic cells do not have a membrane-bound nucleus or organelles

ANY QUESTION?

THANKYOU FOR LISTENING ! (kindly prepare 1/2 crosswise for our short quiz)

For number 1-5 IN 2-3 SENTENCES DIFFERENTIATE PROKARYOTIC CELL FROM EUKARYOTIC CELL QUIZ TIME!

True or False 6. All cells have a cell wall • True • False

True or False 7. Prokaryotic cell do not have a membrane -bound nucleus or organelles • True • False

True or False 8. Nucleus is the substance that surrounds organelles and is located between the cytoplasm and plasma membrane • True • False

True or False 9. Animals in the Kingdom Animalia are characterized by having cell walls that provide structural support, which is a feature they share with fungi and plants. • True • False

True or False 10. Some protists are capable of photosynthesis and can produce their own food similarly to plants. • True •False

Let’s check!

Answer key: 6.)False- only plant cells and some bacteria have a cell wall 7.)True 8.) False- the substance that surrounds organelles and is located between nucleus and plasma membrane is cytoplasm 9.)False- Animals lack cell walls; this is a feature of plants and fungi 10.) True
