CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT

CONTENTS

What is CPU? A  central processing unit  ( CPU ), also called a  central processor ,  main processor  or just  processor , is the  electronic circuitry  that executes  instructions  comprising a  computer program . The CPU performs basic  arithmetic , logic, controlling, and  input/output  (I/O) operations specified by the instructions in the program.

Components of CPU The central processing unit (CPU) consists of six main components: control unit (CU) arithmetic logic unit (ALU) registers. cache. buses. clock.

Functions of CPU The primary function of the central processing unit is to execute programs. It takes information and processes them according to your instructions. Calculations like Addition and subtraction, are also done with the help of the CPU. It controls and gives commands to all Computer parts such as memory, input, and output devices. Read data & instruction from the memory. All data and instructions go through the central processing unit.

Descriptions of Control Unit A control unit or CU is circuitry that directs operations within a computer's processor. It lets the computer's logic unit, memory, and both input and output devices know how to respond to instructions received from a program. Examples of devices that utilize control units include CPUs and GPUs.

Descriptions of ALU The computer central processing unit ALU performs both bitwise and mathematical operations on binary numbers and is the last component to perform calculations in the processor.
