Introduction Central universities in India are institutions of higher education established by an Act of Parliament and are funded by the Government of India. The list of central universities issued by the UGC includes 54 central universities . In all of the Indian states except Goa and the union regions, there are central universities including in Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, and Pondicherry .

key features Governance by UGC : They are governed by the University Grants Commission (UGC), which oversees standards, funding, and coordination for higher education . Autonomy : These universities have a considerable amount of autonomy in framing their curriculum, conducting exams, and formulating academic policies . Reservation Policies : They follow the reservation policies of the central government, providing reserved seats for SC, ST, OBC, EWS, and PWD categories .
