Narrative Text

“ Teks naratif adalah cerita imaginatif yang bertujuan menghibur orang” Definition of Narrative Text “A narrative text is an imaginative story to entertain people”

““ Tujuan dasar dari text narasi adalah untuk menghibur dan menarik minat pembaca Purpose of Narrative Text “The Purpose of Narrative Text is to entertain or amuse the reader or listener .” “ Ketika ada teks To entertain / amuse reader about ( judul teks ) story ”

Generic Structure of Narrative Text Orientation : It is about the opening paragraph where the characters of the story are introduced. (who, where, when) Complication: Tell about the problems in the story. Resolution: Tell about the solution to solve the problem. Coda / reorientation ( optional ) – lesson from the story. “ Berisi pengenalan tokoh / karakter tempat dan waktu terjadinya cerita - siapa atau apa , kapan dan dimana ” “ Permasalahan yang muncul / terjadi pada cerita ” “Bagian ini berisi tentang penyelesain dari masalah “Pesan moral dari cerita tersebut” (Biasanya didalam Narrative Text terdapat pesan moral yang bisa kita pelajari”)

The Characteristics / Language Feature of Narrative Text: Fokus pada satu tokoh atau pelaku dan biasanya individual sehingga biasanya menggunakan kata ganti seperti “ I, we, she, he ”. Menggunakan to be past – was untuk subjek : I, she, he, it dan were untuk subjek you, we, they Menggunakan Past tense , baik itu simple past tense ( menggunakan V2) contoh : went, drunk, played, studied, menggunakan tense past continuous ( menggunakan to be past + V1ing ) contoh : He was laughing Menggunakan Nouns tertentu sebagai kata ganti orang. hewan dan benda tertentu dalam cerita . Misalnya : the princess, the girl, the queen, Menggunakan Adverb of time ( Once upon a time, one day, A long time ago) Menggunakan Time conjunction (when, then, until, after, before, after that) Menggunakan Action verbs. A verb that shows an action. (run, walked)

Legend: A legend is a semi-true story, which has passed on from one person to person. It has meaning or symbolism for the culture in which it originates. ( Dalam bahasa Indonesia, legend dikenal sebagai legenda yaitu cerita tentang asal usul kejadian sesuatu , misalnya legenda Tangkuban Parahu ) Myth: A myth is a story based on tradition or legend which has a deep symbolic . ( Dalam bahasa Indonesia, Myth disebut mitos , yaitu cerita rakyat tentang makhluk mitologis atau kekuatan supranatural , misalnya cerita Nyai Roro Kidul ) Folktale: A folktale is a popular story that was passed on in spoken form, from generation to the next and usually the author is unknown . (Folktale dalam bahasa Indonesia disebut cerita rakyat dan cerita ini biasanya bersifat turun temurun dari mulut ke mulut sehingga satu cerita biasanya memiliki beberapa versi yang berbeda ) Folklore: A folklore is a tale, legend, and supertition of a particular ethnic population .( Folklore juga merupakan cerita rakyat , tetapi bedanya kalau folklore tidak turun menurun secara lisan ) Fable: A fable is a story that features animals, plants or forces of nature ( Fabel adalah cerita tentang hewan , tumbuhan atau kekuatan alam yang menyerupai perilaku manusia ) Teks Narrative terdiri dari beberapa jenis , yaitu :

Example of Narrative Text and Generic Structure: ORIENTATION COMPLICATION RESOLUTION The Rabbit and the Turtle One day a rabbit was boasting about how fast he could run. He was laughing at the turtle for being so slow. Much to the rabbit’s surprise, the turtle challenged him to a race. The rabbit thought this was a good joke and accepted the challenge. The fox was to be the umpire of the race. As the race began, the rabbit raced way ahead of the turtle, just like everyone thought. The rabbit got to the halfway point and could not see the turtle anywhere. He was hot and tired and decided to stop and take a short nap. All this time the turtle kept walking step by step by step. He never quit no matter how hot or tired he got. He just kept going However, the rabbit slept longer than he had thought and woke up. He could not see the turtle anywhere! He went at full-speed to the finish line but found the turtle there waiting for him.
