About Book Arvind Adiga is an Indo- Australian writer and journalist. The White Tiger is the debut novel by Indian author Arvind Adiga. It was published in 2008 and w on the 40 th Man Booker prize i n the same year.

Character of Balram Halwai Balram Halwai is narrator, protagonist and anti- hero, tells of his rise from village peasant to successful entrepreneur. Balram was born in the village of Laxmangarh, into a life he considers miserable. Despite his intelligence, he was forced to leave school early to work. Born only with the name “Munna” – Boy- and by the end of the novel known as “Ashok Sharma”.

Continue…. The White Tiger is the story of his life as a self-declared “self made entrepreneur”. A rickshaw driver’s son who climbs India’s social ladder to become a chauffer and later a successful businessman. He recounts his life story in a letter to visiting Chinese official premier Jiabao, with the goal of educating the premier about entrepreneurship in India.

Continue…. He describes his journey, from growing up poor in the rural village of Laxmangarh to living the life of a successful businessman in Bangalore, with dry and cynical humor. He proudly admits to the corrupt and sometimes murderous schemes and behavior that helped him climb to the top of Indian Society.

Comparison Between :- Balram Halwai and Jamal Malik

About Movie Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British crime drama film that is a loose adaptation of the novel Q&A (2005) by Indian author Vikas Swarup , telling the story of 18-year-old Jamal Malik from the Juhu Slums of Mumbai. Starring Dev Patel as Jamal, and filmed in India, the film was directed by Danny Boyle.

About Character Jamal Malik is the main character of the film Slumdog Millionaire. Eighteen-year-old Jamal Malik, an Indian Muslim from the Dharavi Slum, is a contestant on the Indian version of who wants to Be a Millionaire?, and is one question away from the grand prize. However, before the 20Rs million question, he is detained and tortured by the police, who suspect him of cheating. Through a series of flashbacks, Jamal recounts the incidents in his life that provided him with each answer.

Similarities Both are narrator. Both leaves their school because of circumstances. Both are good observer. Both becomes rich through their intelligence. Both belongs to poor condition. Both are humiliated because of poor condition.

Difference Balram becomes rich in wrong way. But Jamal becomes rich through intelligence. He win the contest and get money and become rich. Balram kills Mr. Ashok and takes his identity and become rich. Balram does not built his own identity, But he takes his master’s name. And becomes successful entrepreneur. And Jamal makes his identity through his hard work and on his own base. He does not takes any other’s identity.

Continue… Balram does violence. He achieved his goal but in bad way. He is not create better example for society. Jamal is also does pick- pocketing, but he does not kill anyone to become rich.

Comparison Between: Balram and Salim Both Character does violence. Both works according to their master’s order. Both have poor background. Salim and Balram is self centered. Balram kills his master, But salim does not kills his master. Salim is died in the movie. Both goes against their master.

Conclusion Balram , Jamal and Salim struggle and get money. All have poor background. Balram and Salim’s character is similar in compared to Jamal’s character. Both does not gives ideal example compared to Jamal’s character. All have their own personal attempt towards circumstances. All have different value system. One choose right way and second choose wrong way. It depends on personal choice of person.
