Hens lay
eggs...about

every year!

The eggs look
just like the
ones you see in
the shops

They grow and
develop just like
seeds and take 21
days to hatch

This is a hen
house – the eggs
are safe in here.

After 21 days the
chicks will peck
their way out

The chicks will
be wet at first.

But soon they’ll
be fluffy and
cute.

They’ll even
start to grow
feathers...

Well, some will.
Like people, chicks
are all different.

But they’ll all
grow up to be
chickens.

And the hens will
start to lay eggs
all of their own!
