COMMON OBJECT S THAT CAUSE CHOKING

HIGH RISK FOODS THAT CAUSE CHOKING

WHAT ARE THE SIGNS?

SIGNS OF MILD CHOCKING

SEVERE AIR WAY OBSTRUCTION

HOW DO WE MANAGE IT? Abdominal thrust / Heimlich maneuver Use abdominal thrust to relieve choking in a responsive adult or child. It may be repeated several times to clear the airway

ABDOMINAL THRUST / HEIMLICH MANEUVER Make a fist with one hand. Place the thumb side of your fist against the person's belly, just above the belly button but well below the breastbone. Grasp your fist with the other hand. Give a quick upward thrust into the belly. This may cause the object to pop out.

OBESE AND PREGNANT VICTIM If victim is obese or pregnant, perform chest thrust instead of abdominal thrusts.

MANAGING CHOKING IN INFANTS

CHOKING RELIEF IN INFANTS Use back slap and chest thrusts for choking relief in infant. Do not use abdominal thrusts.

IF VICTIM BECOMES UNRESPONSIVE - CPR
