Choosing and Developing a research Topic 1. Define the general subject you may want to explore 2. Define specific topic and consider three important factors: importance and interest, availability of resources and manageability of resources.

Tips to assist you in deciding about what and how to write 1. Choose a topic that you are interested in 2. Check the availability of materials or resources on your chosen topic 3. Consider the length of the report and length of time to complete the study. 4. Find a topic of novelty.- originality, uniqueness and possible innovation 5. Consider the age level, interest and occupation of your expected readers.

Guidelines in the Formulation of a Research Title 1. The title must contain the following elements: a. Subject matter or research problem b. The setting or locale of the study c. The respondents or participants of the study d. The time period when the study was conducted (if the title becomes too long because of these elements, the timeframe or period may be omitted)

Guidelines in the Formulation of a Research Title 2. The use of terms as “Analysis of”, “A Study of”, An investigation of” and the like should be avoided. All these are understood to have been done in a research. 3. If the title contains more than one line, it should be written in inverted pyramid. 4. If the possible the title should be not longer than 15 words. 5. To shorten the title, delete the terms “Assessment” or “Evaluation” if these are emphasized in the text.
