How to develop a Christ-like Commitment?
I. Be Prayerful. v.36 “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” Prayer is a powerful tool for building strong commitment.
Isaiah 37:14-20, Hezekiah’s Prayer 14 Hezekiah received the letter from the messengers and read it. Then he went up to the temple of the Lord and spread it out before the Lord . 15 And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord : 16 “ Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, enthroned between the cherubim, you alone are God over all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. 17 Give ear, Lord , and hear; open your eyes, Lord , and see; listen to all the words Sennacherib has sent to ridicule the living God .
18 “It is true, Lord , that the Assyrian kings have laid waste all these peoples and their lands. 19 They have thrown their gods into the fire and destroyed them, for they were not gods but only wood and stone, fashioned by human hands. 20 Now, Lord our God, deliver us from his hand, so that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you, Lord , are the only God. ”
Isaiah. 37:21-22, 29, 32, 35 Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: “Because you have prayed to me …" this is the word that the Lord has spoken concerning [ Sennacherib ] … "Because you have raged against Me and your arrogance has come to My ears, I will put My hook in your nose and my bit in your mouth, and I will turn you back the way by which you came… The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this … For I will defend this city to save it, for My own sake and for the sake of My servant David”.
II. Be Humble. v.39 “… he fell with his face to the ground and prayed.” Humility brings success in the life of a person and it develops a strong commitment to achieve the purpose.
III. Be Submissive. v.39, 42 “…My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done. v.42 In the Bible, submission is the act of voluntarily giving up one's will, desires, and authority to a higher power .
IV. Be Consistent. v.44 Matthew 26:44, So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing . Consistent - acting or done in the same way over time, especially so as to be fair or accurate.
IV. Be Consistent. v.44 Consistent - In the Bible, consistent means being faithful and living in accordance with God's will.
Conclusion: As we reflect on how to develop a Christ-like commitment through prayer, humility, submission, and consistency: Let us remember that these are not just ideals to strive for, but actions to live out daily. Christ’s commitment to us was unwavering, full of sacrifice, love, and grace. As followers of Him, we are entrusted with the task of embodying those same qualities in every aspect of our lives.
Conclusion: Let us commit to being prayerful, seeking His guidance in all we do. Let us remain humble, recognizing that all we have is a gift from God, and we are nothing without Him. Let us be submissive to His will, trusting that His plans for us are far greater than our own. And let us be consistent, living out our faith not just on Sundays, but every day, in every moment.
Conclusion: Brothers and sisters, a Christ-like commitment is not always easy, but it is always worth it. May we lean on His strength and grace as we continue to grow in our commitment to Him. And as we do, may our lives reflect His love and bring others closer to His kingdom.
