Cinchona officinalis SYNONYM: Jesuit’s bark, Jesuit’s powder DESCRIPTION: large shrubs or small trees with evergreen foliage, 5-15m (16-49 feet) in height. LEAVES: Opposite, rounded to lanceolate. FLOWERS : White, pink or red. FRUIT: Small capsule containing numerous seeds.

CONSTITUENTS CINCHONA ALKALOIDS – 25 types: Cinchonine and cinchonidine - isomers Quinine and quinidine - stereoisomers Dihydroquinine and dihydroquinidine Cinchotannic acid, bitter essential oil. Quinovin hydrolysis to quinovic acid & quinovose . T he alkaloids contains at least 15% of quinine with not more than 20%. GENERAL STRUCTURE OF CINCHONA ALKALOID

HISTORY

USES QUININE : antimalarial, skeletal muscle relaxant, night muscles spasm and abortifacient. QUINIDINE : indicated for treatment of arrhythmia and cardiac depressant, atrial fibrillation. CINCHONINE : has mild antimalarial activity. CINCHONA EXTRACT AND TINCTURE : bitter stomachic and anti-pyretic. CINCHONA BARK WITH MOSES

FORMULATIONS

TONIC WATER EDIBLE USE : Quinine as a bitter flavouring agent in tonic water and carbonated drinks. INGREDIENTS : Cinchona, ginger, clove and carbonated water.

CINCHONA CAPSULES INGREDIENTS: Cinchona officinalis dried bark – 1000mg. 100% Pure G elatin capsules. DIRECTION: 2capsules 2-3 times a day with meal. CONTAINS: Quinine, Q uina . USE: Cold and cough treatment, hypothermia and antimalarial drug.

QUININE TABLETS INGREDIENTS: Each tablet consists of quinine sulphate 300mg and other excipients. DIRECTION: 600mg for every 8hours for 7days. CONTAINS: Quinine USE: Antimalarial drug, treatment of nocturnal leg cramps, produce slight sleep.

QUINIDINE SULPHATE INJECTION INGREDIENTS: Each ampoule contains quinidine sulphate 190mg. DIRECTION: Not more than 4grams daily. CONTAINS: Quinidine USES: Ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, antimalarial drug .

COSMETICS - SHAMPOOS INGREDIANTS: Quinine(Supports microcirculation) and vitamins B5(hydrates & fortifies the hair shaft), B6(strengthens keratin & reduces sebum) and B8(health to hair strands). DIRECTION: Apply to wet hair. Work into lather & then rinse. Use as often as required. CONTAINS: Quinine. USES: Revitalize & Strengthen thinning hair.
